The Woman Who Opened the Door: A Mother’s Legacy of Leadership

Written by Kim Kaselionis

Who She Was

The woman who opened doors for me long before I even knew they existed was my mother, Kit M. Cole. She was a pioneering force in advancing opportunities for women—particularly in the areas of equal pay, economic empowerment, and financial independence.

Known publicly for her leadership in the real estate and financial sectors, she built a career defined by breaking barriers in male-dominated industries. Through her work, including her leadership roles in lending, investment strategy, and property development, she championed women’s ability to control their own financial futures.

She believed deeply that economic agency was the foundation of equality, and she dedicated her life to creating access, education, and opportunity for women to claim that power. Her advocacy challenged the limits imposed on women during a time when affirmative action was still reshaping access and opportunity—proving that women belonged in boardrooms, in finance, and at the helm of their own enterprises, even when the system said otherwise.

What She Did

For me, her influence was both personal and profound. She didn’t just tell me I could do anything—I watched her live that truth every day.

She was my model for how to dream boldly, make intentional choices, and carry myself with the quiet confidence of someone who knew she was limitless. She created opportunities for me to lead in business from a young age, inviting me into real conversations and real decision-making long before most young people would ever be given that trust.

She offered space for me to contribute, to take risks, to try, to fail, and to try again.

How It Changed My Trajectory

She demanded of me only what she had already mastered in herself: a standard of courage, clarity, and conviction that left no room for half measures.

Those early experiences became the bedrock of my leadership journey. Because she expected me to rise, I learned to trust my own capacity to do so. Because she lived her values with principled, fearless consistency, I grew up seeing not just what I could do—but who I was capable of becoming.

Her life revealed, with a kind of quiet certainty, that dreams are realized through the steady alchemy of hard work, unwavering determination, and—every so often—the grace of a little luck. She impressed upon me that leadership is both a responsibility and a privilege, and that the work that matters most is the work that lifts others.

The trajectory of my life—my choices, my ambitions, my drive to create impact—was shaped by her unwavering belief that I was capable of extraordinary things. She didn’t just open doors; she taught me to walk through them with purpose and to hold them open for others.

And as I carry her lessons forward, I’m reminded that none of us rises alone. The doors she opened for me are now mine to open for another woman—to widen the path, to lift her toward the future she dares to imagine.

When we choose to elevate one another, we honor the women who shaped us and become the women who shape what comes next.

From Transition to Triumph: A C-Sweet Success Story

When Kim Davis joined C-Sweet in early 2023, she was at a pivotal point in her career. After serving as CFO of Wilbraham & Monson Academy for a decade, she was stepping away in a few months to take care of personal matters and consider her next move. "I was contemplating what was next—whether to remain in the nonprofit world, transition back to corporate, or pursue something entirely new," she shared. At the recommendation of a colleague, Kim joined C-Sweet and soon discovered the Women in Transition group, a monthly forum designed to support executives navigating career changes.

This group became instrumental in Kim’s journey. “It was a place where women contemplating career shifts or job searches could share their experiences and support one another,” she explained. With the help of expert coaches and peer discussions, Kim refined her personal mission statement, bolstered her confidence, and gained insights into networking and job search strategies—key tools for someone who had rarely needed to actively job hunt. “The idea of a job search felt overwhelming, but the group helped me clarify my priorities and navigate the process.”

While in transition, Kim worked as an interim CFO for nonprofits, weighing options between corporate and nonprofit opportunities. When a recruiter approached her about a role at the Sisters of Providence Ministry Corp. (SPMC), she initially declined. However, upon learning more about the organization’s impactful legacy—serving the community through elder care, transitional housing, and food security—Kim reconsidered. "It felt providential," she reflected. After a series of presentations to SPMC’s board—a process she admits was daunting—Kim was offered the role of President and CEO.

Reflecting on the support she received from C-Sweet, Kim emphasized how the Transition group helped her articulate her value and navigate the challenging board presentation process. “They helped me with soundbites, crafting my story, and building confidence in presenting my accomplishments. The group gave me clarity about what I truly wanted in my next role, helping me intentionally align my career path with my core values and aspirations—a decision I couldn’t have made without their support.”

As CEO, Kim now leads the organization through its own transformation, working to ensure the Sisters’ legacy of helping others endure for decades. “I’m humbled and inspired to be entrusted with their mission of hope and healing. This role is above and beyond what I envisioned for myself, and I feel truly aligned with their values.”

Kim’s journey is a testament to the power of C-Sweet’s community. “I’ve formed meaningful relationships with other members, and the programs are incredibly relevant to women in executive roles. Even though I can’t always attend in-person events, I feel connected to Beth, Dianne, and the network. Their enthusiasm and passion for supporting women is infectious.”

As C-Sweet prepares to embark on its 2026 theme of Grow + Thrive = Success, Kim's story exemplifies the transformative power of connection, support, and strategic career development. “I’m so grateful for C-Sweet. They’ve helped me see not only what’s next, but what’s possible,” she said.

The Neuroscience Edge: Why Elite Leaders Are Turning to Neurofeedback

Written by Maryna Yudina

Executives, investors, and high-stakes leaders spend extraordinary resources on advisors, consultants, and performance strategies. Yet despite this ecosystem of support, familiar challenges persist: stress that won’t resolve, restless sleep, fragmented focus, declining energy, and an inability to sustain peak performance at the level their roles demand.

The reason? Most performance frameworks, no matter how sophisticated, overlook the most critical driver of human potential: the brain.

Beyond Performance Playbooks: A Neuroscience Edge

Neurofeedback training goes deeper than conventional methods. Rather than simply offering strategies and accountability, it looks directly at your brain’s activity—across 19 regions—and identifies which networks are overworking, underperforming, or out of sync.

I often tell clients: “I’m not a magician. You won’t wake up a genius tomorrow. But the results feel magical, because the process trains your brain to regulate itself—naturally.”

Think of your brain as a symphony with 19 instruments. Most high achievers are over-relying on a few, while others sit silent or out of tune. Traditional strategies may give you a new song to play, but if the orchestra isn’t tuned, the music will never reach its potential.

Neurofeedback is the conductor aligning frequencies into harmony, so you perform at your best—whether that means sharper investor judgment, more confident boardroom presence, or the resilience to scale a company without burning out.

Anchoring in a Proven, Proprietary System

Every engagement begins with a Neuro-Limbic Maturation Report, mapping your unique brain activity. From there, I craft a bespoke plan integrating neurofeedback, advanced nutrition, and strategic coaching—all grounded in neuroscience.

This is the foundation of my Cognitive Elevation™ Program—an elite, neuroscience-driven system reserved for leaders who refuse to choose between performance, longevity, and lifestyle. It is a bespoke process, offered to a select few each year, designed for those who operate at the very top of their industries.

For leaders navigating acquisitions, preparing for IPOs, or balancing the dual weight of influence and visibility, this isn’t just optimization—it’s executive insurance. The right Brain Map becomes the ultimate edge.

Results That Reshape Trajectories

The transformations are profound. One client came in exhausted, anxious, and reliant on substances to cope. After consistent training, he built confidence, gave up unhealthy crutches, started working out regularly, and grew into a thriving career as a stock trader.

Another, a corporate executive long trapped in “achievement mode,” discovered her personal life again after realizing her brain had been locked into overdrive. For the first time in years, she found balance between professional success and authentic connection.

As one client texted me recently: “I’m exactly where I wanted to be.”

The Future of Elite Leadership

High achievers often chase shortcuts. But true, sustainable success comes from optimizing the brain itself. When we train the brain to self-regulate, everything else—focus, memory, relationships, and resilience—begins to shift.

The difference between good leaders and transcendent ones is not more willpower, but better wiring. For those leading at the highest levels, that wiring is everything.

Ready to experience Cognitive Elevation™?

The Currency Every Woman Leader Needs Right Now

By Dianne Gubin & Beth Hilbing, Co‑CEO’s, C‑Sweet

When we think about the most pivotal moments in our careers, they rarely happened under fluorescent lights in a boardroom. They happened over quiet coffee conversations, unexpected introductions, and late‑night strategy talks with peers who just “got it.”

These moments weren’t scheduled on our calendars. They weren’t part of a quarterly plan. But they shifted everything—how we saw opportunities, how we navigated challenges, and how we measured success.

That’s the thing about leadership: in an increasingly complex world, connection has become the most valuable currency we have. Not the surface‑level kind that comes from trading LinkedIn requests, but the deep, trust‑driven kind that fuels ideas, opens doors, and keeps us resilient when the road ahead gets steep.

For women in leadership, this currency is even more critical. We’re still navigating industries where we are underrepresented at the top, still asked to prove ourselves twice over, and still too often “the only one” in the room. That kind of isolation can quietly drain both our influence and our capacity to lead with authenticity.

And here’s the truth: you can’t make real withdrawals from your leadership without making deposits into your network—your real network, the one that feeds you ideas, resources, and courage.

That’s why together matters. It’s not just a feel‑good sentiment—it’s a strategic advantage. Collective intelligence moves faster. Shared influence carries further. And when women leaders come together with intention, we don’t just trade business cards; we trade power.

This belief is at the heart of the C‑Sweet Summit. On September 10–11, 2025, we’ll gather at Uncle Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee. This location is not just a beautiful backdrop—it’s the embodiment of what we stand for. Founded by Fawn Weaver, a visionary Black woman entrepreneur, Uncle Nearest is a story of resilience, reinvention, and leadership that opens doors for others. In every way, it reflects the spirit of this year’s theme: Women in Leadership: Together We Create Success.

The summit is designed as a two‑day catalyst for the kind of high‑value connections that change trajectories. You’ll hear from trailblazers like Radhika Iyengar, founding partner of StarChain Ventures, and Natalie Levy, founder of She’s Independent—leaders who aren’t just succeeding in their fields, but redefining them. You’ll engage in conversations that don’t just inform, but ignite. And you’ll build relationships that last far beyond the closing session.

Because the challenges we face as leaders—whether navigating economic uncertainty, scaling a company, or breaking into the boardroom—are too complex to face alone. The future will belong to those who understand that leadership is no longer a solo sport.

If you’ve ever felt the difference between being in a room that drains you and a room that fuels you, you already know: the right network is everything. The C‑Sweet Summit isn’t just an event. It’s an investment—in your leadership, in your influence, and in the collective success of women everywhere.

The currency of leadership is waiting to be exchanged. The only question is: will you be in the room?

Rooted or Just Standing Tall? The Leadership Crisis No One Talks About.

written by Daniel Olexa

If you’re a leader today, you’re probably asking yourself, “Is THIS what I signed up for?”

Navigating uncertainty used to be just one challenge of leadership—now it feels like the whole job description.

There’s a good chance you’re waking up each morning having more questions than answers:

“Is the direction I’m taking still relevant?”

“Will this decision hold up next quarter?”

“Is this even worth it to me?”

These aren’t just business questions. They’re existential.

The Emotional Cost of “Holding It All Together”

Let’s talk about what no one wants to admit: Uncertainty doesn’t just affect your strategy. It affects your sense of self, and that effects your energy and how you show up.

The old model of leadership says that you’re the expert: You’re expected to know, to decide, to lead with vision.

But what happens when even your intuition feels scrambled? That’s when you start questioning every decision.

What I’m hearing in practically every conversation with leaders are these three themes:

Fractured. Like the confident part of them is still showing up in the room, but underneath it, something has cracked.

Exhausted. Not just tired, but soul tired. From the pressure to perform, reassure, pivot, repeat.

Disconnected. From their own values, their team, their purpose… and sometimes, from themselves.

Here’s the part that’s tough:

No one’s talking about this publicly. Because leaders aren’t supposed to struggle. We’re supposed to have the answers and be stable foundation for others.

How Strong is the Oak?

Oak trees are a great metaphor for stability and leadership.

They’re grand – the provide shade and comfort; they’re strong – broad trunks and branches that stand up to the strongest winds…but they have one weakness: their roots.

When my wife and I lived in Naples, FL I noticed a trend in the local news. Every time a strong storm blew through from the Gulf, we’re talking gale-force winds here, the next morning a reporter would be featured next to a tall oak tree that was knocked over in the winds.

They would invariably stand in front of the tree’s root network. The diameter of this network would be 8-10+ feet, while the reporter was a little over 5 ½ feet tall.

“Look at the roots of this tree that was toppled last night.” Yeah, from the bottom, the contrast was impressive…but if the reporter was being honest, they would have taken their shot from the side of the roots.

That 10-foot diameter of roots was merely inches thick from the side, because of the high water table in Florida. The tree found the water it needed to survive just inches below the surface. It went broad instead of deep for nutrition.

That was not enough to keep it standing when the environment became chaotic.

What does this mean for you?

Your stability is found and created by going within yourself to reconnect to your values, remember to your personal purpose, and center yourself deeply in your identity rather than in the surface mask of your role/title.

The Shift

What today’s challenges are asking for isn’t rigid confidence.

They’re requiring something deeper: clarity.

Clarity isn’t about having every answer. It’s about knowing who you are while the answers are still forming.

That’s the shift—away from performative strength, toward authentic inner alignment.

And it’s not easy. Especially when you're surrounded by noise, pressure, and performance expectations that punish pause.

So Where Do You Go with This?

Unless you pause and take time for yourself to create your own stability, you will be the victim of the winds; always feeling the push and knowing you are one gust away from toppling.

That’s no fun, and it’s not productive.

And until you find a way to reconnect—to yourself, to your values, to your truth—you’ll keep spinning. You’ll keep questioning every decision. You’ll keep losing energy trying to be “the version of you” that others need… instead of being the whole leader you already are.

Stable Leadership Starts Inside

I’m going to ask you to give yourself 3 gifts. They’re easy on one level, but may be difficult on another.

They are:

The gift of personal, quiet time. At least 15 minutes every day without distraction or interruption. This is your time to practice selfishness, putting your needs first…if you prefer, you can call it ‘self-care.’

Choose the best time of day for you, and block this time in your calendar. Make an appointment with yourself and do not reschedule it. Treat it like the most important meeting of your day, because it is.

The gift of letting go. During this time, let go of your perceived responsibility to anyone and everything else. The world will still be there when you come back.

Whatever you’re carrying from the day, the week, the month, the year, the decade…from life, give yourself permission to put it down. If you want to pick it back up later, you can. That’s your choice.

Once you have set the weight down, take a breath and notice how your body feels. Breathe deeply and scan your muscles. What has changed? How do you feel when you are out from under that burden? How much energy had it taken to carry it? What’s possible for you now that you have freed up that bandwidth?

The third gift is often the most difficult, but a gift cannot be given unless you allow yourself:

The gift of receiving. When you release what was, you make room for what can be.

Continue in the stillness. Reconnect to your ideals, your values, your truth.

Ask yourself:

What do I value most? What brings me joy?

What do I want to accomplish in this life? How do I want to be remembered?

Who do I need to be to make that happen?

The answers to these questions will reconnect you to your values, dreams, and truth. They will help you to become deeply rooted and grounded so that you are no longer at-effect to the winds of chaotic times.

You deserve this time and this experience for yourself. Give it – and receive it.

Clarity in self.

Because the moment you come back into alignment, that’s when your real power returns, and your confidence with it.

Teams feel it. Cultures shift. Strategy stabilizes. All because one leader dared to stop believing the old lie that they had to hold it all together—and chose, instead, to come back to center.

Because in this new era, the leaders who thrive aren’t the ones who have all the answers. They’re the ones who have the courage to come home to themselves.

A Little Bonus

Here is my gift for you to further explore receiving and reconnecting to your deeper truth: The Art of Receiving. You can download your copy here: https://www.transcendentliving.com/the-art-of-receiving

Owning Your Personal Brand: An IP Lawyer’s Perspective on Protecting NIL in the Age of AI

written by Elizabeth Corradino

In today’s world, where artificial intelligence seems to be everywhere, your digital identity—how you look, sound, and present yourself online—is as valuable an asset as your physical identity. Protecting your image, voice, and personal brand is essential for your reputation and future opportunities. With technological advancements like AI deepfakes and voice clones, a proactive approach to controlling the use of one’s identity is more important than ever.

Owning your Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)
The internet and social media have changed the way we share ourselves and do business. Now, taking charge of your personal brand is a must. However, because the legal basis for protecting NIL is rooted in rights of privacy and publicity—which vary state by state—individuals (especially celebrities, influencers, and athletes, both professional and college) must actively monitor and protect against the unauthorized commercial use of their NIL. A bill regulating the use of AI digital replicas and limiting deepfakes was recently reintroduced in Congress, but until federal standards are established, vigilance at the individual level remains crucial.

Working with professionals can help you set up strategies to control and even profit from your NIL, whether through traditional advertising or digital and experiential marketing. It’s also important to know if you need to register your rights, whether you can pass them on to your descendants, and what kind of compensation you might be entitled to claim if someone misuses your NIL. Failure to safeguard and enforce these rights can result in loss of control, reputational damage, and loss of future income.

Adapting to Change in Entertainment and Beyond
AI is transforming nearly every industry, from movies and music to the legal profession. Embracing new technology can help you find creative ways to use your NIL and grow your personal brand. However, AI’s ability to mimic and replicate voices, images, and personalities raises real concerns about authenticity, originality, and transparency.

Professionals can help you safeguard your personal brand with strategies like licensing programs, digital watermarks, and AI tools that track where your content appears to prevent unauthorized use of your NIL. Advocating for stronger industry-wide standards around digital likeness use is also important: such standards help individuals protect their reputations, maintain control over their NIL, and build sustainable businesses around their personal brand.

Although monitoring NIL usage is important, not every unauthorized use necessitates legal action, and not every legal issue needs to be litigated. It’s wise to weigh the potential financial and reputational impact before deciding how to respond; sometimes, a simple conversation or agreement can resolve a problem without the need for a legal battle.

Conclusion
In the age of AI and digital marketing, understanding the risks and opportunities of personal brand ownership is crucial. With AI-generated content on the rise, controlling your NIL is more important than ever. The future belongs to those who take charge of their personal brand, understand its value, and present themselves authentically. By doing so, you won’t just keep up—you’ll stand out and succeed.

About the Author
The Role of Unconscious Bias in Decision-Making and Leadership

written by Bonnie Wims

How do you make a quick decision? Most people report checking in with their gut to give them a sense of the right thing to do. But are you aware of the role that memory and emotions play when you are facing a choice? And more importantly, have you noticed how your “gut” can get it wrong sometimes?

The brain uses a complex process during the over 35,000 choices we make each day. Many of these steps are largely out of our awareness and therefore we can be greatly influenced by factors that we aren’t even aware of.

Have you encountered this situation or something similar before? Does the person involved remind you of someone? Are you having a strong emotional response to a situation even though it is largely unfamiiar?

Because decision-making is a daily necessity, it is important to understand what goes into your final choice. Whether it’s choosing who to hire, how to lead through change, or where to invest resources, leaders are expected to make informed choices quickly and confidently. Yet beneath even our most rational decisions lies a powerful, invisible force: unconscious bias.

From a psychological standpoint, unconscious bias refers to the mental shortcuts our brains take without our awareness—judgments and assumptions formed through a lifetime of experience, emotion, and cultural conditioning. These biases operate automatically, allowing us to make sense of complex information quickly. But while they help us navigate the world efficiently, they can also distort our perception, especially in high-stakes environments like leadership and organizational management. Where we come from, our experiences and our emotional memories are all called upon to help us make a decision.

The Brain’s Hidden Efficiency

Neuroscience tells us that the human brain processes approximately 11 million bits of information per second, yet we are only consciously aware of about 40. To cope with this overload, the brain uses filters—drawing on familiar patterns, stereotypes, and emotional associations. These mental shortcuts, also known as heuristics, are often helpful. They allow us to act quickly and decisively. But they are not neutral.

As a counseling psychologist, I see how early messages about trust, power, and safety—whether from family, education, or media—become the blueprint for how people relate to others and interpret social dynamics. Over time, these internalized beliefs can show up as unconscious preferences for certain communication styles, leadership behaviors, or physical appearances. They shape not only how we lead but also how we relate to those we lead.

Have you ever just felt more comfortable around someone, even before you really know them? Chances are you are feeling a connection to another because of a familiarity. We are all drawn to what we think we know or understand and our decisions are greatly informed by this assumption. But think back, did you ever get it wrong?

How Bias Impacts Leadership

Unconscious bias isn’t confined to hiring decisions or promotional pathways. It often shows up in more subtle, everyday interactions. Consider these common workplace examples:

A quiet but competent team member is overlooked for a leadership role because they don’t “command the room.”

A woman expressing assertiveness is labeled “aggressive,” while the same behavior from a man is praised as confident.

Feedback is filtered through assumptions about someone’s age, accent, or education level.

These micro-moments of bias accumulate, creating cultures where certain individuals are unintentionally marginalized. In leadership, where power and influence are amplified, the consequences of these biases are far-reaching.

The Psychological Toll of Bias

Bias doesn’t only affect how leaders perceive others—it also affects how leaders perceive themselves. Leaders from underrepresented groups often face a “double bind,” receiving conflicting messages about how to show up: be strong, but not intimidating; be warm, but not weak. The constant mental energy spent navigating these contradictions can lead to emotional burnout, imposter syndrome, or decision fatigue.

In therapy, I often work with high-achieving professionals who internalize these dynamics, struggling with self-doubt that stems not from personal inadequacy, but from years of navigating biased systems. Understanding these psychological undercurrents is crucial—not just for self-awareness, but for healing and empowerment.

Rewiring Leadership Through Awareness

The good news? Our brains are not static. Thanks to neuroplasticity, we are capable of learning, unlearning, and rewiring our mental patterns. Cultivating awareness of unconscious bias is the first step. But awareness alone isn’t enough—leaders must also develop strategies to interrupt bias in real time.

Here are a few evidence-based tools I recommend in both therapy and leadership coaching:

Pause and Reflect: Before making key decisions, ask: “What’s influencing my judgment right now?”

Invite Dissonance: Seek perspectives that challenge your assumptions. Surround yourself with people who don’t always think like you.

Practice Mindfulness: The more present you are, the more you can notice when a mental shortcut is at play.

Name the Pattern: If you recognize a recurring bias in your leadership (e.g., favoring extroverts), name it—and create systems to counter it.

Leading With Psychological Integrity

Unconscious bias is not a flaw in character—it’s a function of how the brain works. But as leaders, we have a responsibility to do the inner work required to lead others well. Leadership that is psychologically informed is more than effective—it is ethical. It creates cultures of belonging, trust, and resilience.

When we understand the emotional and cognitive roots of our decision-making, we can show up with more intention, more curiosity, and more humility. That’s not just good leadership—it’s transformational leadership.

Tariffs in 2025: CEO Cheat Sheet

As tariffs continue to impact businesses in 2025, CEOs must adopt strategic measures to mitigate challenges and maintain competitiveness. Here’s a concise guide to navigating these complexities:

Transparent Communication with Customers:

Educate and Inform: Clearly explain the reasons for price adjustments due to tariffs, providing reputable sources to justify increases. This fosters trust and positions your company as a transparent partner.

Incremental Adjustments: Implement gradual price increases to help customers adapt, demonstrating sensitivity to their financial planning.

Fair Pricing Practices: Ensure that any price changes are reasonable and not exploitative, reinforcing long-term customer relationships.

Proactive Supply Chain Management:

Diversify Suppliers: Explore alternative sourcing options to reduce reliance on tariff-affected regions, enhancing supply chain resilience.

Inventory Planning: Anticipate potential disruptions by adjusting inventory levels, balancing the risks of overstocking against possible shortages.

Financial Strategies:

Cost Absorption Analysis: Evaluate which tariff-induced costs can be absorbed internally versus those that need to be passed on to customers.

Operational Efficiency: Identify areas to streamline operations and reduce expenses, offsetting increased costs from tariffs.

Stay Informed and Agile:

Monitor Policy Changes: Keep abreast of evolving trade policies and tariff implementations to make timely, informed decisions.

Engage with Industry Peers: Participate in forums and networks to share insights and strategies, learning from others facing similar challenges.

By implementing these strategies, CEOs can navigate the complexities of the current tariff environment, safeguarding their businesses against potential disruptions and positioning for sustained success.

Breaking Barriers: The 10 Big Challenges Women in Leadership Face—and How to Overcome Them

written by Susanne Goldstein

As women leaders, we navigate a world filled with incredible opportunities but also distinct challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Throughout my journey of mentoring and guiding women, I’ve identified ten key barriers that consistently stand in our way. These challenges are deeply rooted in societal expectations, systemic inequities, and the immense pressures we place on ourselves. But here’s the good news: they’re not insurmountable. With the right tools and mindset, we can transform these obstacles into stepping stones for growth and authentic leadership.

Let’s take a closer look at these challenges and how we can overcome them together.

1. Burnout and Overwhelm

Many of us feel the crushing weight of trying to “do it all.” We overwork, overachieve, and still worry that it’s not enough. To move beyond burnout, we need to embrace emotional regulation and energy management. I teach concepts like “The Millisecond Technique™” to help you pause, reflect, and respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively. Setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care without guilt are also crucial for maintaining balance.

2. Lack of Confidence in Leadership Styles

For too long, women have been told that to lead effectively, we need to emulate traditional, masculine styles of leadership. But this pressure to suppress our natural tendencies toward collaboration and intuition leaves us feeling inauthentic. It’s time to embrace your feminine energy as a strength, not a liability. Through storytelling, experiential exercises, and real-world examples, I help women discover their unique leadership styles and lead with confidence.

3. Difficulty Setting Boundaries

Saying “no” can be one of the hardest things to do, but it’s essential for preserving our energy and focus. I often remind women that every “no” creates space for a more impactful “yes.” Visualizing boundaries as forcefields—a concept I call “Boundaries as Forcefields”—is a simple yet powerful way to protect your time and energy while staying aligned with your priorities.

4. Hustle Culture and Constant Busyness

Society glorifies busyness as a badge of honor, but it’s an exhausting and unsustainable way to live. I challenge this mindset by teaching women to balance effort with rest and alignment. Tools like “Playing Volleyball with the Universe” encourage you to partner with the flow of life rather than pushing against it. This shift creates space for joy and fulfillment, allowing you to pursue success on your terms.

5. Emotional Suppression and Lack of Emotional Intelligence

How often have you heard the phrase “leave your emotions at the door”? This outdated mentality disconnects us from our intuition and creativity. I encourage women to reframe emotions as strengths. By mastering emotional intelligence, you can navigate highs and lows with grace and use your emotions as powerful tools for connection and decision-making.

6. Living in Survival Mode

Many women feel trapped in survival mode, constantly reacting to demands without ever taking the time to design the lives they truly want. Shifting from reactive to proactive living requires clarity and focus. I share strategies and real-world examples of how to break free from this cycle and create a life driven by intention and purpose.

7. Navigating Patriarchal Systems

Systemic challenges in male-dominated environments are a reality we cannot ignore. Microaggressions, lack of recognition, and limited opportunities can wear us down. That’s why I focus on helping women lead authentically and advocate for themselves effectively. Building a community of like-minded women is also key to navigating these systems with strength and resilience.

8. Feeling Disconnected from Purpose

Even when we achieve great success, it’s not uncommon to feel a sense of emptiness or disconnection. Reconnecting with your purpose starts with introspection. I guide women through journaling exercises and frameworks to explore their passions and values, creating a leadership approach that integrates personal fulfillment with professional achievement.

9. Lack of Mentorship and Support

Leadership can be isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. Building a network of mentors and peers is one of the most powerful things you can do. In my work, I create opportunities for women to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another, tapping into the collective wisdom of a supportive community.

10. Fear of Taking Bold Risks

Fear is a natural part of stepping outside your comfort zone, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. Through tools like “The Courage Walk,” I help women build resilience and take intentional, aligned risks. Bold leadership often means doing the thing that scares you most—and discovering your greatest growth on the other side.

These ten challenges may feel daunting, but they’re also opportunities for transformation. By addressing them head-on, we can reclaim our authenticity, confidence, and power as leaders. My mission is to help women like you break through these barriers and lead with purpose, strength, and joy.

If you’re ready to explore these ideas further and take the next step in your leadership journey, I invite you to learn more at Lead Like a Woman.

Navigating Career Transitions with C-Sweet: Wendy’s Journey from Uncertainty to Clarity

When Wendy Fletcher joined C-Sweet in early 2024, she was at a significant turning point in her career. After serving as the Vice President of Finance at Playboy Group, where her work spanned team building, consumer business strategies, and financial planning, she was exploring what might come next. "I knew I was at the end of my role and wondered if I should pursue board positions or look for a new executive opportunity," she recalled. A recommendation led her to C-Sweet, where she found the support and resources she needed.

The Women in Transition group became a cornerstone of Wendy’s journey. The monthly sessions provided a confidential space for women to share their experiences, explore career aspirations, and receive expert coaching. "It wasn’t just about finding a new job," Wendy explained. "It was about understanding the barriers I faced and figuring out how to overcome them." The group's coaches helped her reframe her career narrative, refine her LinkedIn profile, and craft a compelling story, boosting her confidence in presenting herself as a valuable asset to prospective employers.

The skills and insights Wendy gained from the Women in Transition group played a crucial role in her decision to pursue a new leadership position. She now leads finance for a sports team and stadium preparing to lead the organization through significant transformational change. "This new role involves redesigning everything within the scope of finance, with a short to medium term focus on transforming processes and stabilizing the organization, while focusing on driving growth and profitability in the longer term,” she said. Wendy views this experience as an opportunity to build the skills and experience needed for future board positions. "It’s setting me up for the next phase of my career and will give me the additional heft to be attractive to boards in the future."

C-Sweet’s board readiness resources have also been valuable to Wendy. "I didn’t feel confident at first that I had what it took, but through C-Sweet, I’ve learned about the skills needed and how to prepare myself. It’s more than just sending out a resume; it’s about building the right experiences and connections," Wendy said.

Reflecting on her journey, Wendy emphasized the importance of community and mutual support. "The Women in Transition group wasn’t just about professional development; it was about forming relationships and supporting one another," she noted. The network she built within C-Sweet helped her stay accountable, share challenges, and celebrate achievements with peers who understood her experiences.

Wendy also expressed her gratitude for C-Sweet’s co-CEOs, Beth Hilbing and Dianne Gubin. "Their enthusiasm and dedication to the organization are truly inspiring. They’ve created a space where women in executive roles can find the resources and support they need to succeed," she said. "They are real champions for women, and their passion for C-Sweet is contagious. They make the C-Sweet community and its mission real for all of us."

For Wendy, C-Sweet has been more than just a professional network; it has been a place to grow, learn, and prepare for the future. Whether navigating transitions, seeking board opportunities, or expanding her leadership skills, the organization has provided invaluable tools and a supportive community. "It’s been a journey of self-discovery and professional growth," Wendy concluded. "I’m grateful for the guidance, the network, and the confidence I’ve gained along the way."

Wendy’s story exemplifies how C-Sweet’s Women in Transition group empowers executives to embrace change, enhance their skill sets and find clarity in the next steps of their careers. As she continues her journey, Wendy is more prepared than ever to pursue her goals and make a significant impact in her new role and beyond.

The Future of DEI: A Path Forward for Corporate Leaders

As leaders in the DEI space, we recognize the importance of evolving our strategies to meet the changing landscape. Recently, we sat down with Rachel Ann Williams, Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer at The Motley Fool for a discussion on the state of DEI programs on our podcast, C-Sweet Talks.. Rachel Ann offers invaluable insights and we believe that the future of DEI requires a multifaceted approach that goes beyond traditional methods. Rachel's emphasis on "quiet work"—auditing internal processes for equity without performative gestures—is a powerful reminder that real change often happens behind the scenes. This resonates deeply with our own philosophy at C-Sweet, where we advocate for a balanced approach that marries bold initiatives with subtle, systemic shifts.

However, the journey doesn’t stop there. As we look ahead, it’s crucial to expand the conversation to include not just underrepresented groups but also those who have traditionally held power. Engaging majority groups, particularly straight white men, in DEI efforts is not about diluting the focus but about broadening the impact. By making them active participants in the process, we can leverage their influence to drive meaningful change across the board.

Furthermore, in the realm of venture capital, where diverse networks are often lacking, it’s essential to both build connections and invest in those who already have them. As Rachel suggested, funding managers who are embedded in underrepresented communities is a practical step forward. But beyond that, corporate leaders must commit to long-term strategies that prioritize diversity not just as a goal but as a fundamental business imperative.

At C-Sweet, we see the path forward as one that embraces both innovation and inclusivity, ensuring that DEI is not just a checkbox but a cornerstone of corporate culture. As we continue to lead in this space, we encourage our peers to adopt a proactive, inclusive, and strategic approach to DEI—one that prepares our organizations for the complexities of tomorrow’s workforce.

Join us in shaping the future of DEI. Engage with C-Sweet’s leadership programs and resources designed to empower executives in creating inclusive and equitable workplaces. Let’s lead the charge together.
