Learning from Successes
A Virtual, Experiential Workshop by Luci McKean
Recognizing and celebrating our accomplishments has positive effects on our well-being, self-confidence, and motivation … not to mention our salaries, promotions, and job prospects.
But many people (especially women) have been taught not to “brag” on themselves. Girls were taught “modesty norms” while boys were taught they cannot succeed without celebrating and telling everyone what they’ve accomplished. If you fall into an intersectional category including other marginalized identities, you are at even more of a disadvantage compared to the dominant majority in business.
But it’s not bragging if we’re sharing facts. And contrary to what we were told, our accomplishments do not speak for themselves. “If you build it, they will come” is only true – maybe – in fiction.
Join Luci Englert McKean, Culture and Collaboration Consultant, for a structured conversation in which every participant will bring a success to share in breakout with two other people. (No big public speaking required: you will speak with two other people in a breakout, but only a few volunteers will speak in the full room.)
Your success might be something only you know about, or might be a stage-stealing, award-winning experience. The key is that the process of achieving it is different than what you usually do. Think about the details of what made that success ... successful!
Together, we will learn by analyzing each others' experience in short-form and share out what struck us in breakouts.
